... like the fact that the negative effects of Scotland's alcohol-favoring culture would pop up in front of me so frequently. Yesterday, the man in front of me in line at the grocery store got kicked out for trying to buy a bottle of Scotch when he was already clearly intoxicated. He didn't want to leave, so security had to drag him out. It was 2:45 in the afternoon. And today on my way home at about 7 pm, I saw a man flat on his face on the wet sidewalk. His friends, also obviously drunk, were trying to urge him to get up again. Pretty scary stuff.
It also surprised me that students in France don't write essays or papers of any kind. Not in high school or in college! So Camille is now faced with the task of writing the first essay of her life, in her 3rd year of university... What did they do for all those years where I was doing book reports and brainstorming topic sentences?! She said they just had big exams at the end of the semesters, with no daily homework. Such a different system.

A lovely leaf on my latte. Studying at the BeanScene, the only coffee place that stays open late. |
