We were learning about the Irish Potato Famine in our Scotland class on Thursday, and I made up a knock-knock joke:
Knock knock.
Who's there?
Potato.
Come in, I'm starving!
Too soon? I spent half of the class chuckling to myself.
Baking Society this week was Halloween themed, so I got creative and made Swamp Cookies (AKA chocolate cookies in weird shapes with Haribo gummies.) They turned out pretty well, and creepy, and there was some tasty stuff like always. I liked the candy corn bark the most- I got my candy corn after all! But sadly, no pumpkin pie, which Alex had really been looking forward to. I don't think they know about pumpkin pie here!

Dulce de Leche cake with pumpkin seeds... do these people not have class? How do you make this on a school night?! |
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here. Besides it being cold, stores have started putting out their decorations and presents. They also announced the schedule for Edinburgh's Christmas events! There'll be an ice rink, special markets, concerts and tree lightings, and a carousel. It'll definitely be the most wonderful of the year.
Today I wandered around the city in the few hours I had before it got dark. I'd been so bogged down by school stuff that I'd almost forgotten how beautiful everything in this city is. I explored the National Scottish Gallery and saw some amazing Impressionist pieces by Monet, Van Gogh, Cezanne, and their contemporaries, and then did lots of browsing in stores.
